TD-LTE, the fourth generation wireless communication network, is expected to go into commercial use this year, said Li Yue, president of China Mobile, the country's largest telecom operator. TD-LTE, which stands for Time-Division Long-Term Evolution, is now a global standard for 4G networks. Shang Bing, vice minister of industry and information technology, said several government agencies were working on policies to support TD-LTE development. China Mobile has launched trial operations of TD-LTE in 13 cities and hopes the trial can be completed by mid-year. Network construction and equipment purchase for the network were underway, Li said.
