    TB & FDA Approval

I can recall two new drugs that, on their TV commercial, say that the patient should be tested for TB before taking the drug. Embrel is on of the drugs.

Why does the drug company say to be tested for TB. Is that because it's on the uptick in USA? Or is it just a broad, boiler plate admonition? This could mean a substantial amount of testing for TB. Anybody have any input, information about why the TB test for Embrel?

    • Embrel is an immunosuppressant. persons that have dormant Tb or that have had Tb in the past may experience reactivation of the Tb when on Embrel due to the immunosuppression.

This does not mean additional Tb test for the CPHD product though since it is only approved f or respiratory specimens and many Tb complex infections are extrarespiratory.
