    UPS book value disappears

The Company is sustaining huge pension and comprehensive income losses and BV is falling. They show $4B in NI and BV drops. This has been going on for several years. Look at the 10K. They call it pension accruals but it appears to a transfer of cash floe to the unions. They are powerless to stop it.

The biggest risk to UPS is local delivery companies which are taking all the growth. They are able to cut rates by 30% and deliver faster service. Amazon uses them. UPS is not getting Amazon market share, the local companies are getting it. Growth is very low and in the next downturn it will be obvious. At this PE it is very fully priced.

    Sentiment: Sell

    • where do you get your facts?

      Sentiment: Strong Buy

    • No doubt the pension expense issue will come up at the CC. After reading a comprehensive story on how well companies did in strengthening their pension obligation balance sheets during a year that saw a near 30% increase in the S&P 500 and other significant increases in the ROI in other vehicles, I'd be amazed if what you suggest is not accurate. Regarding local delivery companies getting package volume, who's to say. Just imagine how their operations are being affected by weather....
