    Exec. Compensation

Correct me if I am wrong, but Excel is many times larger than Northwestern Energy. Why such a small bonus for the CEO, as compared to what Drook got???

MINNEAPOLIS - Xcel Energy Inc. will give outgoing chairman and chief executive Wayne Brunetti a one-time $4 million payment, according to a regulatory filing.

Brunetti announced Friday that he is stepping down as chief executive, and said he will retire as chairman on Dec. 31. His new compensation package includes $4,050,000, plus health care coverage and financial planning services, according to a filing Friday with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

His former employment contract as chief executive and chairman paid him $1,065,000 annually, a target bonus of $1,065,000 and other incentives.

Brunetti will be succeeded as CEO by Richard Kelly, who is currently Xcel's president and chief operating officer. Kelly's pay will rise to $920,000 from $700,000, and he will be eligible for a larger bonus.
