    Augme switching IP Law Firm

I see on several of the pending patent filings that Augme has filed a change in power of attorney. Looks like they had to switch for some reason. Perhaps it did have something to do with Qualcomm.

    Sentiment: Strong Buy

    • Assuming you're correct, clearly there must be a very definitive reason that they would switch, or be forced to switch, firms with respect to those 91 pending patent filings. Considering Augme is no longer actively filing numbers of new patents, and there is currently minimal work required to shepard those patents through the USPTO approval process, I can think of almost no reason to have moved the pending patents to a new firm.

While I won't speculate, it is a fact that Marbury Law group handles patent filings for Qualcomm and that Dr. Roberts is highly regarded in his field. It is also a fact that if Qualcomm did in fact have any interest whatsoever, and I can see exactly why they may, and wanted to discuss it with Roberts, he and his firm Marbury Law Group would be subject to a conflict as counsel for both. This conflict itself would require one of the company's moving to a different firm. I'm sure it wouldn't take Dr Robert's long to decide which client may stay, and which one go.

    • Qualcomm is the seventh-largest technology company in the US, boasting a market capitalization of more than $100 billion and $25.6 billion in cash on its balance sheet. The company is comprised of two segments: Qualcomm CDMA Technologies (QCT) and Qualcomm Technology Licensing (QTL).

QCT designs and sells chipsets that are integral to a host of popular electronic devices, including laptops, tablets and smartphones. The QTL division owns a large portfolio of patents for mobile telecommunications. The company’s lock on this valuable intellectual property means that every time a manufacturer sells a handset that allows for high-speed data connections, Qualcomm reaps a royalty on the sale—regardless of the brand of device.

      Sentiment: Strong Buy
