Do they have internet access at Club Fed? Maybe that's why he's got all that free time. Thank goodness we have such public spirited contributors. I'd like to hear more from him on, say, political and philosophical and spiritual topics.
Have never shorted a stock. I have a diversified portfolio of 80+ stocks with an average div yield of about 3.5% versus about 2% for the S&P 500. I live off my divs which tend to double every 7 years or so. Stock PRICE is less important than rising divs since I do not have to sell stock to pay my bills. Its like why do I have to kill and eat the chicken if they are laying more eggs every year? However I have been able to beat the S&P by 1/4 -1/2% yearly on STOCK PRICE too. (At least not fall behind the index while collecting a higher div.) mreits are an interesting exotica. Barely 2% of my portfolio. Why? Coz one cannot depend upon them to increase their div year in year out. Thats crucial to my philosophy and thats how I was able to take early retirement! Cheers.
