" If I had saved all the money that I and my company have paid in health insurance into an simple interest account that I could draw on in case I needed it, it would have over a million dollars in it by now even after paying for the health care that I have received. "

A million bucks ay?  Lets say thats over 30yrs.  Thats an avg of $33thousand a year in premiums.  33k in 1983?  Hmmm.

"Before they had health insurance health care was not as expensive as it is today and if they outlawed heath insurance it would go back to where it was before. And all the doctors would be downsizing their homes in a significant way. Health insurance is what has caused all of this health care inflation."

You actually thought that up, typed and posted it!  Ok here you go:

Before we had automobiles daily transportation was not as expensive as it is today and if we outlawed cars it would go back to where it was when people walked.  All the car company and oil company employees would be downsizing their homes in a significant way.  The automobile is what caused all this daily transportation inflation.

My god, conservatives will have us living shoeless in mountain hollows if this craziness keeps up

    • Here is the difference:
We pay for our cars and we pay for our gas and we pay for our car repairs and maintenance.

We do not pay (in full) for insurance. We do not pay for MRIs, and blood tests, and EKGs.
our insurance companies do. Most of us don't know what they cost and we do not care.

But you are a college student so you probably have never had an MRI, an EKG or a blood test.
Your mom and dad pay for your health insurance, and probably your car as well.
Once again it is becoming clear.

    • Go read up on compounded interest and the future value of money. It seems you don't understand them.

Your analogy isn't applicable. I did not say if you eliminated health care, I said if you eliminated health insurance. If you want an applicable analogy then take away car insurance and see how that drives down the cost of body repairs. It actually would. And it was cheaper to make body repairs in the past than it is today. Just look at how minor a car crash has to be now days before a car is classified as totaled.

These aren't that difficult of principles to understand. I really don't see why you are getting so tangled up with such simple concepts. Most people understand them pretty clearly if they take the time to think about them. Maybe that is why you are so confused about so many things. You just can't see what does and does not make sense or don't make the effort to get it straight in your head. That would not be so bad if you didn't express yourself as if you did. But you go around acting like you know things that you clearly don't understand very well. I'm constantly wondering how old you are because you come off as if you are lacking in life experiences in most things. As if you just out of school or something and imagine you know more than you do.

Maybe if you just slow down and think about what you are saying first it might help you from not saying so many embarrassing things. We all say embarrassing things from time to time. It's normal. I really hate it when I do that myself. But you seem to be doing it constantly. I can only guess that you aren't even aware of it as most people would feel ridiculed into silence if they became self aware of how simple you often come off as. Normally I wouldn’t be so caustic in attacking you but you are getting a bit much lately. It’s beyond my ability to contain myself anymore. Which I have been doing a lot of but obviously from this post it’s clear that I have decided open up and express how I really feel.

    • hgff101,

You'd think if you made an ad hominem attack, especially trying to show the board what a smart fellow you are, you wouldn't have made such illogical and just plain stupid statements.

You quoted RayB as saying "simple interest". Starting with zero, and adding 1200/ month for 30 years @ a conservative 5% is a million. Is that too much of a stretch for your brain? Wait, don't bother to answer that.

Second is a display of distorted, illogical reasoning. You apparently flunked the lesson in school on analogies. You know, "Happy is to laugh as Sad is to cry". Heath is to health care is not analogous to Car is to transportation. It is analogous to Car is to car insurance.

Are you sure you are not a shill for the Republicans trying to make the Democrats look stupid? I know there are many Democrats who, unlike you hgff101, are smart, and not foul mouthed. What do you folks think of this voice of the Democratic Party here on our MB? I see a lot of heads shaking.....

On your other great point. Some of us remember analogy testing in school. "Laugh is to happy as cry is to sad". You apparently were absent that day." Health is to health insurance" is not analogous to "Car is to transportation". It is analogous to "car is to car insurance".

Are you sure you're not a shill for the Republicans? I would not recommend that you apply, anytime soon, as a front man for the Democrats, otherwise new student homework will include "Smart is to Einstein" as "Stupid is to Democrats", and we all know that's not true, right?....;-)
