    How kind of WalMart

WalMart has said it will hire 100,000 Veterans as a way to appease the public who think that WalMart is a bad guy. I don’t personally shop at WalMart because I don’t like what they have done to small businesses across the country as they have forced the people who might have made more had they never came to their town to work part time for minimum wage.

What they didn’t announce is that since Obamacare has a 30 hour threshold at which you have to provide employees with health insurance or pay a $2000 fine that every retail store in the country, and I’m sure WalMart as well, plans to have only part time workers in the future who work 30 hours or less. Only managers and the like will get full time work, but with a lot of uncompensated over time of course, which will allow them to recoup much of the Obamacare cost. My guess is the meat packers will do this as well as the level of skill required isn't high enough that a high turnover cannot be tolerated. Pretty much any job that is low skilled enough that turnover is not a concern is going part time in 2014.

I still will not be shopping at WalMart except to buy my 85% Green and Blacks dark chocolate which they sell for an in creditably low $2.97 for a 3.5 oz bar. I guess we all have our price. But don’t tell anyone. I would not want my fellow WalMart boycotters to know this as they might ridicule me into pay full price for my precious GB chocolate which is my only vise as I neither smoke nor drink. The line stops here.

By the way, I have investigated it and the only reason Green and Blacks list milk as an ingredient on their dark chocolate is because they use the same line to manufacture their milk chocolate and traces of milk makes it into the first few batches when they switch the line over to dark chocolate production. It’s a trace amount and probably can be ignored unless you are hyper allergic. For those who simply want to avoid dairy products it can be ignored as insignificant. I’m sure that even a hard core vegan can live with this amount. My dog could care less about this as she can’t have dark chocolate anyway though she is convinced otherwise. The toxic dose of dark chocolate for a 30 lb dog is about 10 ounces.

    • I had no idea people were forced to work at Walmart. The health care law was poorly written with no debate or input from those concerned. If you have a problem with a law perhaps you should take it up with those that wrote and enacted it.

      • Since the law has little impact on me, other than it will drive up my health care cost a little, or maybe more than a little, there is no huge reason for me to make an effort to take up either side of the cause. I will allow all those people who had 40 hour a week jobs and who get their hours slashed to 30 hours a week to lobby for their own behalf. My guess is 2014 will be an interesting year for those of us who like to monitor these politcal activities. It will be interesting to see how it all plays out. My guess is that most of the people who thought they were going to get health care will only find themselves with part time work and will have to work two jobs now instead of one if 30 hours doesn't provide them with enough money to pay the bills. But we shall see. But I think I am right about this because California passed a similar law years ago and now there are few full time jobs in California for low skilled workers. Even the baggage handlers at the airport are part time employees. Why would this play out any different than it has in the past? Just because Obama had his hands on it? I don't think so. If they did not want this to happen then they should have eliminated part time work as an excluded category. But they didn't so my guess is that a lot of people are going to have a rude awakening in 2014 and they aren't going to be happy about it. As they say, reality sux. This is pretty obvious stuff. I really don’t see why Washington is always having to learn by the school of hard knocks. I guess it just goes to show what quality of people government attracts, which appears to be the dregs. I just don’t see why this wasn’t obvious to them.

      • Hey that's a great idea mr.phil2u. Seeing how this is a forum to discuss AGNC and all.
At least someone around here has some common sense. : )

Simple solution. Change the labor laws to pro-rate benefits instead of creating exploitable discontinuities.

The real issue here is that Wal-mart jobs suck for pay on a good day. There isn't much in this world that pays worse than enlistment in the military, but they've got it in spades.

As for the chocolate thing, the Green & Black's website has an extensive FAQ on that topic. Turns out they can't wash their equipment with water (any trace water would cause the first flux of chocolate to seize, creating an unmovable plug in the pipes that would have to be drilled out) so they just run dark chocolate until the output is reasonably right (they likely recycle the interim fluid for milk chocolate on the next changeover), but that won't remove enough of the milk to make it safe for severe casein allergies.

      • Exploitable discontinuities --- I like that term. We have them in Washington, DC, all the time; they are called Congress persons and Senators (not to even start to mention the White House).

      • Yes, I have read their web page concerning this because I did not want to eat chocolate that had milk in it as an ingredient and G&B list it as an ingredient. I'm not allergic to milk. I just thought it strange that dark chocolate would have milk as an ingredient and so I looked into it. They explain very clearly that they only list it as an ingredient because of the trace amounts that get into the chocolate from previous milk chocolate batches made on the same line.

It is hard for me to imagine that anyone could be that allergic to small traces of milk but then I haven’t any knowledge in this regard as milk allergies don’t concern me. It would seem to me that if you were that allergic to milk that you would find it hard to trust eating most things that you did not cook yourself in case someone failed to mention something they did not understand to be so important to such an individual.

    • your post is so contradictory it's ridiculous, you hate wall mart yet you buy the cheap chocolate, LAME.

    • I am a big advocate for supporting the small businesses in my town.
I will go purposely to the local carpet store, local tile guy, the hardware store etc rather than Home Depot or Sears. And I tell them that when I am there and they appreciate it, and they tell me with service.
If I EVER have a problem, they take care of me.

I only go to Walmart for one thing Motor Oil.
I can buy 5qt Mobil One for $25.!
