I think the fireman would respond by saying your house should burn down, find someone else to be your peon servant and risk his life saving you.

    • H&H !!! In Knoxville,Tenn the fire dept is a private entity. You have to join and pay annual premiums which was low from memory. If you did not pay you can sign a contract to pay the actual cost of putting the fire out or they let it burn to the ground. There is no Tennessee state personal income tax and the citizens that dont need fire protection dont pay for it.

      • Mrphil, i respect Tennessee, i value Tennessee, but you need to understand, you cant run California like you run Tennessee. The people of California made their state the way it is based on their values, just as Tennessee is for Tennesseans. They are different places with different people.

There was a story in the last few years where they did let a house burn down because the owners wasnt on the listbof dues payers.

Perhaps Ray should move to TN. He can save money on fireprotection and put out his own fires.

      • That is not quite correct. TN is what tax accountants refer to as a hybid. It depends where the income is derived from whether there is an individual income ytax.

    • Didn't you get the memo? With all the smoke detectors, sprinkler systems, and fire retardant materials, there aren't very many fires any more that don't get put out with a hand held fire extinguisher buy the resident of the building. That is why they have gotten politicians to write laws that fire trucks have to go out on calls even when there is not a fire and why firemen are now becoming paramedics. You could close down most of the fire stations and no one would notice. Technology has its price, so it seems. It has resulted in fewer people being required to do every job. But evidently no one told that to the government as they have done everything possible to make sure that firemen stick around whether as many of them are needed or not.
