    Joining QGEN board

It is now official! I am one of the long time holders of DIGE who has joined the QGEN family. The DIGE Yahoo message board was a true gem. There are many long time contributors (and lurkers, like me) who added class, knowledge and intelligence to create an amazing community there. I hope they will all make the move here and help the QGEN board become as great a forum. From what I hear, my shares will not convert 100% as I requested, so I will have some funds to invest. I still have a lot to learn about QGEN and hope to learn more here.

    • Drsci2,
I haven't looked deeply but I'll give my initial impression.
I read this and it made me a bit skeptical but it's only 1 opinion:

      http://www.thestreet.com/newsanalysis/biotech/10337586.html

I think the Selection bias theory from 12-24 mths on the previous study has some merit, but I'd have to look more closely.
Seems like much of MYGN future is going to be based on the Alzheimer drug. I see a fair number of Alzheimer patients and am very underwhelmed by the drugs we presently use - they are expensive, have minimal effect and no significant quality of life or mortality benefit. Thus, I think a successful disease modifying drug first to market will be a HUGE winner and MYGN may have the inside track for that. But, there's also alot of competition not too far behind. My initial gut feeling is it's too risky for my blood now without the completion of phase 3 studies but it has great potential if the studies are good and it has a few years as the only drug out there.

BTW, you said on a previous post you thought QGEN was "cheap". Can you expound on that and what metrics do you use to determine that? Thanks

    • About a week ago I posted my current choice of MYGN for discussion.I started accumulting a while ago and started puting some of the Dige funds in. It had a strong runup in the last two days because of a strong mention on CNN. I think that it is a good candidate for long appriciation. Would like to hear your inputs.

    • Thanks, Doc.. I'll take a look. After five long years of agony with Digene, I've got to diversify! Really like the QGEN team so far. Hopefully, we can maintain the same civil discourse we (usually) had on the DIGE board.

    • kcam, if you are interested in EXAS, have a look at Epigenomics (Germany based company traded on the DAX, used to have an aliance w Roche, now on their own)...

      regards

      Dr John

    • back to my roots

coupla studies...the netherlands one nothing new but sort of a retrospective wrinkle and important cuz it's meijer...can a dutch company not land the netherlands for hc2?? we'll see

the other one is interesting in that it validates pcr after hc2 ... senior author castle from the nih and also a cockeroachie as second author...happy to leave the cockeroaches seconds after primary screening with hc2

never had such a relaxing earnings day <gg>

    • do plan to listen to conference but for once feel confident that general direction is positive

spoke to OCC and this is what they told me regarding holders of old digene (QDG) calls that are now UXD root and in the money...

it may be a while before Qiagen notifies OCC of the final consideration for the options though presumably it will be all cash, that has not been determined

surprisingly, he told me that if you DO NOT exercise an in the money call you lose any consideration at all, i.e. they become worthless...this seems odd but apparently there will be no auto-exercise since they don't know the deliverable and may not by for instance august expiration or even sept

therefore, you must exercise prior to expiration even if the deliverable hasn't been determined...this means that in the unlikely event that the deliverable is all qgen stock, you have to have the funds to exercise...

if anyone else hears anything different i would love to hear it!

    • Sackers said Qiagen's top priority in the coming 12 months will be to
integrate Digene. "But we want to continue to grow also through acquisitions,
and we have maintained the necessary flexibility for that," he said. Most of
the future buys will help expand the company regionally or obtain interesting
technology. But he also held out the possibility of larger acquisitions.

Any speculation as to what companies QGEN may be looking at as future purchases to complement their business? I was looking at QGEN as a possible purchase target buy a bigger fish but this statement by Sackers seems to suggest otherwise.

    • trading up 7% in germany...this management team is amazing, nice top and bottom beat despite several acquisitions to integrate

what a breath of fresh air...yeah nice not to have to have those sleepless nights 4 times a year anymore <gg>

marsala, i had forgotten so glad you reminded me!
