i am sorry to say that this is a big disappointment. I have the issue and i as far as i can tell there is not one watermark in the issue. The only consolation is that there is a Target advertising supplement inserted on page 84 that has a bunch of watermarks....however the video that they are linked to does not play (at least on my Iphone)...i tried it with Discover and the SI custom app scanner. This is probably why we have not seen an announcement from Digimarc boasting about SI like we did last year. The issue is georgous and is almost devoid of QR codes. They use the colorful circle throughout the issue which sets up great for scans like "Seventeen" magazine does. They appear to have wanted to test a different approach this year with their "one big shot" issue. they are trying to drive readers to pay for the bonus pictures and videos by downloading the swimsuit app and teasing users with a taste. i don't think that this is a rejection of watermarks but i think that they felt that they have one shot to make some bucks and get readers to pay up for the additional content. I hope that Bruce comments about this on the next call.
So, SI wants people to pay for something this year that they were doing for free last year? That is an interesting concept! Their own private labe app must either be Digimarc or Netpage, right? Either way, it is another example of this use in a way we have not seen before, and involves payment for something in the here and now. I think this is going to be very interesting to see how it works out for SI!
I think we were up today because somebody wanted to unload some shares and finally took their fingers off the stock and let it rise... it quickly rises to $22.96 on light volume, 9,000 shares , and then we see 36,000 shares trade in the last 2 hours of the day ( twice the daily average) and we drift down to $22.25. The good news is the volume is up and the price is up for the day which is never a bad thing.. it will be very interesting to see which direction it now goes... does it keep rising pre earnings or will it quickly drift back to our favorite PPS, $21.41....We have yet to hold $22 and test a new high in the $23 range. Long term it is all good although i really do hate how this small float stock gets massaged.
