    A few more homebuilder thoughts

I keep hearing about the dramatic escalation in home prices with the attendant argument that these prices are going up too fast to be sustained. While I do agree that prices have been increasing, consider that the size of the average home is also increasing. On top of that, think back 10, 20 or 30 years (if you go back that far). The average house today has many, many more amenities, electronics, building code-mandated items than the average house in the past. At least, that's been my experience. Most houses today also have better, if not bigger yards and outdoor entertainment areas. And, if you add in prevailing wage rate increases for the building trades, you'll perhaps understand why a home today is not quite as expensive as the nay-sayers would have us believe.

Plasma TVs, multi burner cooking grills, side-by-side refrigerator/freezers, microvaves, "smart house" electronics, non-wood burning fireplaces, tinted windows, double and triple pane windows, exotic hardwood floors. Sure beats Levittown.

And all bought on easy credit. The ability of the consumer to leverage themselves in order to keep up with the Jonesey's has never ceased to amaze!
