    Short Squeeze

Thats what a market maker is, an individual who agrees at any given time to fill orders. You misconceive the whole system. A market maker is not a person who pushes up the price of a stock or "promotes" a stock. He just fills orders like a clerk in a grocery store. He could care less what the price is. He does maintain an inventory of stock at all time to fills orders. He makes his money on the commission for the transaction. He does care about volume and screwing poor people like us by buying back the shares we bought at a lower price or selling to us for a higher price from his inventory.

Market makers are not bullish or bearish. They simply care about volume and putting willing buyers and sellers together. Without them their could be no liquidity which is the touchstone of the free market system.
