Is there any thoughts out there regarding a possible takeover of CBSH? As the financial sector has been hit hard the last few months, some of the values look attractive. But do any potential buyers have a stock price that would allow them to do a deal. CBSH would be quite a prize.
Brock Vandervliet is a Bank Analyst at Lehman Brothers. He spoke about downgrades and stock picks on CNNfn today. http://188.8.131.52/nocgi/Forum193/HTML/000054.html CBSH Spent a few days with management. Believes they should have revenue break out. Liked the company for pristine balance sheet and high quality credit culture.
Well Fargo has indicated it would like to fill the big gap in its coverge ----> Missouri and Kansas where it has no presence. The only possibilites are CBSH and UMBF. Both are owned and run by different branches of the Kemper Family. I don't think WFC would overpay and probably can't pay the price the Kempers would ask for even if the Kempers wanted to sell. I hold positions in both stocks. I don't believe UMBF of CBSH will be sold anytime soon. With the pooling of interest method going away at year end, it would be better to sell now than wait. They won't get the price later they can get now.
