    Oracle Buys Tekelec

Interesting, to what extent Tekel would be able to compete the IPE pureplay vendors...
    1) March 2010 Camiant announced "Verizon Wireless" selected Camiant’s Multimedia Policy Engine (MPE) as the Policy and Charging Rules Function (PCRF) for 4G LTE. Not sure if it substituted Bridgewater Systems - "subscriber data management and service control" solution?
    2) May 2010: Tekelec acquired policy control leader? Camiant ($135 Million) and evolved subscriber data management (SDM) company Blueslice Networks (35 Million).

So either oracle, is planning for a few large acquisitions down the line in NW space to become a HW/SW NW provider to service providers and Enterprises in addition to the full stack Application and Data center equipment provider and putting together a bunch of companies and then someone will have to integrate.

Hope, Elizabeth J. Huebner, the merger expert, person responsible for selling Blucora, and recently hired at Procera has a role to play... :-).

    • It is clear that Oracle is putting together a "stable" of solutions that will enable them to be strategic partners to operators (likely to manage the fact that their DB sales are slowly eroding). They now have a good grip in the voice and OSS area (especially with policy that they now have installed with PCRF (Camiant) and SPR (Bluenote iirc)). The next phase should be more policy solutions, and it would make sense if that was more in Procera's area (DPI) than in normal infrastructure. Acme is very specialized, but has struggled to get outside of their SBC roots.

      • Acme is very specialized, but has struggled to get outside of their SBC roots = The enterprise session border controller (E-SBC) is specifically designed to overcome the complex security, interoperability, and service quality challenges IT teams encounter when implementing VoIP, UC, and SIP trunking initiatives.......DB sales are slowly eroding = Oracle Database 11g helps customers lower IT costs and deliver a higher quality of service by enabling consolidation onto database clouds and engineered systems like Oracle Exadata and Oracle Database Appliance. It's proven to be fast, reliable, secure and easy to manage for all types of database workloads including enterprise applications, data warehouses and big data analysis.
