boy are things starting to Pop in Manitowoc. Heard today that Kohls & Target are coming to town. Kohls to sign letter of intent within 3 weeks,,Target several month later. Both to be in the area near Loew's.
For U people familiar w/ Manitowoc (city of), McMullins & Pitz (marine contractor) is getting pressured by the city to move their operations up river near the Jack-knife bridge because the City wants retail sales across from City hall NOT industry. The City also wants Condos' to be built across the river from Associated Bank. I wonder if "Char-sol"(Red Arrow Products) is feeling any pressure from the city??,,,, Oh ya, 25 years ago when Henry E.Burger aproached the Soo Line for this property they wanted $160,000/acre.
Also heard that the North End Drug store bldg. was sold & the new owner wants to put in a small marina. That'll never fly.
Some more news,, Burger Boat is considering putting in a "Syncro-lift" (marine elavator)because the boats they're now building are getting too big for even MTW to lift safely. A good move on their part.
Looks like Manitowoc is on the move. I hope MTW stays around to enjoy it.
Does Manitowac have plans to build more of their large crawler cranes? Two on our power plant site for last 6-7 months building pollution control /steel ductwork . Understand their is backlog of work and shortage of these cranes . Any word here ?Thanx
Sorry that was a slip of the typing finger (about MTW leaving town), although when I was @ the stock holders meeting, I did comment to one of the company officers (mum's the word) how convenient it was that the Head quarters is leased & not owned by the Company. Something that doesn't have to be sold if there was a mass exit outta town. And they said "YES it is nice"
As to the strike, haven't heard a thing other than many of the employees are working @ a snails pace.
