Why isn't it fair for MTW workers to be able to choose whether to join the appropraite union? If MTW hires a machinist who does want to join the machinists union, why is it okay for the union to force him to join anyway? That's what this strike is about. The union is afraid that people will decline membership. They won't be compelled to join a painful Christmas strike; they wouldn't be charged large fees that will fund political movements they may personally oppose; they will be individuals jusged on their own merits and not be a nameless part of a machine where the good and the bad are judged the same....
Argue with my contentions as to what comes along with union membership if you want. But at least answer the basic question: why is it okay for union to force union membership on employees who may not want it?
Who is John Galt?
Well,
From my perspective Galt is not the union.
This article is a few months old, but it gives the "other" side pretty well.

It's not fair.....the unions don't care about what is fair. They only care about power.
Are you suggesting the ones that don't want to join a Union would take less pay than the Union workers? Are you suggesting that those not wanting to join the Union would not need Union protection in case of a work dispute? Should those not in the Union have to be given health insurance, 401K benefits? Currently, a person that opts out of a Union is only asked to pay their fair share which excludes monies that go to political organizations.
