We had a problem with a rental and Homeaway didn't do anything. We will not be using them again - or any of their related sites.
Well I had an agreement and signed a lease for a week in the caribbean. I provided credit card, etc.
We showed up as agreed but the person leasing property never showed up. We emailed them. They responded about 1 1/2 days later after we scrambled on a Friday night to find a room that was in short supply. We ended up paying $150 more per night for the last minute hotel reservation than someone booking the hotel room months in advance.
I contacted Homeaway about the owner failing to provide the rental when we returned from vacation. I gave them the details and offered to send emails. They said they would look into it. They never called or emailed me back.
In addition. We were physically at the property. At the door of the property where the owner never met us. We waited 2 hours. Walked around property and asked if anyone knew owner.
I asked Homeaway if I could leave a review for the owner's rental that detailed what had happened. Homeaway said I could not leave a review for the property since I had not been IN the rental property.
I would think that anyone considering renting from this particular owner in the future would want to know about the owner failing to show up and honor their contract. Homeaway would not let me add a review for the property and experience.
I have used VRBO for years, and know many others who have used this site too. I have always ,except for one time, had a fabulous experience. The last time we rented an apartment in Rome and it was just incredible. I never stay in hotels anymore, always use VRBO. So I don't know what the problem was. I think home away is a separate site but has many of the same properties as VRBO. You can have a bad experience at a hotel also. I always try to use a credit card, in this instance you could have refused to pay the bill.
