    BIIB a buyout candidate?

BIIB is ripe for a buyout!

    • Way more likely Biogen makes a decent size acquisition than Big Pharm buying Biogen, but you never know. After the big mistake AZN made buying Medimmune, I don't see many big pharma's paying top dollar for big biotech because the valuations are so different and the revenue just isn't there. Sanofi's new CEO has been talking about getting more into med device, animal, generics, otc and vaccines via bolt on acquisitions.

    • Mr Salt...I agree. BIIB is in the bird cat seat. I am amazed that neither MRK not PFE bought BIIB but there are more big companies ready to buy and after BIIB's presentation this week on their pipeline and the end of their late April/May 2009 hold harmless agreement which has lasted 16 months since BIIB let suitor's look at their books we BIIB shareholders are in for some serious action...on the upside..and Mr. Excellence...just watch old boy.

    • Bravo! Well said. BIIB is a lean company with some serious cash in the bank and a stuffed pipeline. It is ripe for the picking.

    • Yesterday's Investors Business Daily on page A9 has a great article on buyouy/merger possibilities in the Biotech space..sorry I cannot post the link. BIIB is featured as a strong buyout candidate..and Mr Excellance, none of us has it all figured out..and neither do you...but I agree that since Ichan and others like him are big owners of BIIB stock. biogenics may be coming, etc that BIIB is well positioned to go in a number of directions..including being bought out. See you in a few months at $85 per share.

    • Hard to believe this post from 2004.

    • Who wants to buy 1/2 interest in two drugs (Rituxin,ANtegren), Avonex which is crap (how it competes with ReBif and Copaxone) no idea losing market share each quarter. Maybe Amevieve would close the deal, then again, maybe not. GARBAGE CO.

PS.. Someone on this board please explain to me how antegren will NOT cannabalize the earnings of Avonex. BIIB is a completely fractured company in need of some direction.
      JAMES YOU SUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

      • And another thing - BIIB sold Amevive several years ago....
Maybe this posting really has been floating around in the electronic ether since 2004. Either that or the author has been.

      • Someone seems to be a bit bitter, disgruntled former investor who sold out early?

"""Who wants to buy 1/2 interest in two drugs (Rituxin,ANtegren), """ LMAO, 1/2 Antegren alone is more than many companies will ever earn, 1/2 Rituxan is close to a billion, what have you been smoking?

"""Avonex which is crap (how it competes with ReBif and Copaxone) no idea losing market share each quarter. """
Crap doesn't bring in 1.2B/year. Market is expanding, do your homework.

""""Someone on this board please explain to me how antegren will NOT cannabalize the earnings of Avonex. BIIB is a completely fractured company in need of some direction.""""
I will gladly do that, Antegren will eat in some of Avonex's share, but Avonex is not the only drug on the market, there are 3 others and Avonex is only 45% of those, if Antegren eats one share from each drug, that means biib will get 1/2 from each patient who switched, so if 4 patients switched to Antegren (one from each drug), Biib stands to get more. Plus not every patient will use Antegren, patients who are stable will not switch unless they choose so, not every doctor will use it, plus it all depends on how marketing is positioned. In the end, it is a big market, and every drug will have it's share, biib has 1.5 of 5 drugs, not bad at all, wait until the drug is marketed and then come and discuss it. Enjoy shorting, please short it with full force, the more you short, the stronger the squeeze later.

        Hope that helps.
