    REITS not on No Short Sale List

    HCP and other REITs are not covered by the SEC ban on short sales. You can see the list at the SEC website: sec.gov

    Nevertheless, most REITs are up today. I can't explain HCP other than someone knows something, (operator problem) or similar.

    I am hanging in. This one has not disappointed over the long term.

      If HCP were included in a finance ETF it would get shorted and have to be covered. The Thursday late, and early Friday and Friday close was frantic short covering. Maybe not because it was on the list but because it was in a group with others that were.

      Heck you kidding this is a buying time for all in this industry. they have cheap assets at the moment and produceing great cash flow only place to hide right now.
      The rumour I have heard is that these guys at HCP are seriously looking at buying some other companies just for that reason and one on the list is a RIET on the canadian side called Chartwell Seniors Housing a well run company that is right now the largest there. check them out CSH-UN.TO if your using the quotes on yahoo. Chartwell has a solid divvy. Would not be surpsied if that is the case.. anyone hear something post it.

      Let's get real. Yesterday saw a 20% jump most of which came from a big block buy at the close. Today saw a bunch of selling early (could have been limits getting hit)but then a slow climb back up to near 40. That suggests to me there were a lot of buyers in the $38 and $39 range - not a bad thing at all.

      Anyway you slice it we're up over 16% from Wednesday's close, and it wasn't like we were in the tank then. If we can hang in this range for the next leg up I'm all good.
