Prana is an Australian company and it would benefit Australia greatly if PBT2 were approved. There have been many posts in OZ over the years about the credibility of the Australian biotech industry benefiting as well as the prestige of the country if they could tackle the AD dilemma. The Australian government has recently provided funds to Prana. The AD trial is being held in that country and is being handled by Australian practitioners. There have been posts over the years from well known Australians about their strong belief in PBT2. There will be a lot of political pressure to have PBT2 approved even if the stumbling political FDA requires a large Phase III prior to any approval. If Australia gave conditional approval, that would start the positive cash flow for Prana and many foreigners would visit Australia to get PBT2. That would also help the Australian tourists industry. Ultimately that would also place pressure on the FDA and it also would provide a wide safety history. The same goes for HD approval in Australia. There will be a lot of pressure from patients and families to have some drug approved that has shown safety to help in the fight against these diseases. It all comes down to the results but the approval process in Australia and the US could surprise us all. One thing we can all expect is the unexpected.
