Why doesn't VZ make a bold move right now and take both MCIP AND Q? If Q is right and the synergies are near 15 Billion for MCIP/Q and the costs for both wouldn't be much more than that, you get both for practically nothing. In other words VZ takes advantage of the synergy savings now. Most have predicted for years that when the telcom smoke clears there will be probably 3 big players left. Strike now and you get a huge footprint and tons of assets. If you want to be a business titan, you gotta think like a business titan. Just a thought.
Because VZ can sit back and let Q absorb all of MCI's problems in a merger and straigthen out as much as possible why spending themselves into a financial crisis, then when the Q/MCI entity is on the ropes VZ can step in and snap up whatever is left over at a fraction of the cost of buying them both at this point.
