The negotiations between Verizon, the Communications Workers of America (CWA), and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) for an early contract settlement on a limited set of issues have been suspended. The unions today notified the company of their decision not to pursue early bargaining. The CWA and IBEW represent most employees in the Northeastern and Mid-Atlantic states.
The labor contracts under negotiation expire on August 2, 2008, and cover union-represented employees in the following regions: New England, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania/Delaware, and Potomac. Contracts covering union-represented employees in other regions expire on different dates and, therefore, were not the subject of these negotiations. blah blah blah bullshit bullshit bullshit ...
I like the way Verizon explains that the Unions decided not to continue negotiations---they fail to mention that Verizon was looking at only give backs in medical care and refused to respond to any Union requests. This is after Verizon approached the Unions about early bargaining----TYPICAL!!!
the union and company were just checking out the dance partners. NOTHING is going to happen until the results of the sale of the northern states is settled. Maine is meeting again today and all 3 states must decide most likely this month. only then can the union start serious early talks. they need to know if they have the 3k union members or not.
