If CEO will just tell members that they
and the retirees will have to pay $50
a week 200 a month toward health care
and stop paying FMLA with a pay freeze
for 1st yr of new 5 yr contract, and
allow new hires to be hired at lower pay
and benefits many in the Potomac region
would not strike.
Why give backs? Because Verizon says so? Tell me why. “Because most of America has little or no healthcare?” Or “most of America has nowhere near what Verizon union workers have?” That is what Verizon says in its contract talks with the union. It is also what this very profitable company is telling the public. Unlike some union’s negotiating with failing companies or companies losing money, CWA and the IBEW are negotiating with a very profitable company. That is GREAT news!! I wish there was more profitable companies in America like Verizon. Why is it we admire and respect a company when they do well, Wall Street speaks praises when a company exceeds expectations, or earnings but when the middle class guy, your neighbor, friend, or guy in the supermarket gets a raise, or some benefit, maybe exceeds the people around him in some small way, we say shame on him!! Take that away, nobody else gets that bonus, that benefit, that pay. This should not be about why the union workers have what they have, it should be why a very profitable company does not supply ALL of its workers the same benefits as the union workers.
Umm.. this idea sounds great in a fluffy white world, but Verizon is driven by profit and profit only. The executives job is to make the company as profitable as possible and answer to the shareholders. The current executive management has clearly shown they value profit over experience. "Why" doesn't everyone get what unions get? Plain and simple, supply and demand - people are willing to work for less. You should take a peek around and realize there are a ton of highly educated and motivated people looking for non-existent jobs out there.
It starts in school. We are pretty much taught from day one to conform in order to make it in society and be just like everyone else to fit in. On a leadership basis we are also taught to obey a structure. In a company that's an executive leadership so we accept that they can get paid more while the average worker should fit in somehow in a competitive landscape. It's basic human psychology.
If you ever notice those that are amazingly successful at an early age. Those that create multi-billion dollar companies from the ground up were nothing like the average student. They likely dropped out to take a chance and pursue a dream never thinking about what society thinks. It's that trait in someone to be different and take a risk that almost always leads to the creation of a young business leader.
I said I would be willing to pay something for the healthcare plan we now have.If they want to give us garbage they can stick it. I also feel that the money that the company is making there is no way that we should give into everything the company wants us to give back.
I agree as long as nothing else changes in the contract.
If we give up Sun premium pay then soon we will all be working on Sundays.
in Potomac we do not get paid extra for Sat
do you guys in NY ?
