Sandy - What is Verizon hiding?

While everybody else (ConEdison, MTA, NJ Transport, etc.) have done a commandable job to keep the public and customers informed about the curreent sitaution and the outlook, Verizon has decided not to provide any information at all to anyone. I run a small company in lower Manhattan but despite vigorous efforts I have no clue when my telephone service will be restored. Well, acutally I was given a date - Dec 3, but I was also told it is irrelevant.

I'm not the only one in the dark. My building does not have any information about the Verizon situation and neither does Downtown Alliance who have done a great job keeping it's constiuancy updated on a daily basis. When asking Down Alliance why they had not included any inforamtion about Verizon's service issues, I was told that it was not for lack of trying. They just had not been able to get ANY infomation from them.

10 days have now passed since this storm wrecked havoc to the area. Verizon clearly must have a good idea about what is going on with their system and what it will take to get it up and running. Why not share it with us. Or could it be that the situation is so embarassing that they have decided it's better to errect a information firewall between themselves and their customers.
