The earnings you cited totaling $2.32 are non-GAAP EPS. They are called "Operating Earnings" that are followed by the Wall Street Analysts. The Operating Earnings exclude items such as non-cash pension expenses accrued for the period and the amortization of Intangible Assets. It's much closer to operating cash flow after tax.
The analysts report Operating Earnings for firms that report them. IBM didn't start to officially report Operating EPS until 2010. Firms with huge non-cash depreciation GAAP expenses like telcos have been reporting Operating EPS as a supplement to GAAP EPS for a long time.
