When I got my dear-john letter informing me that my health insurance had been dropped, they gave me an alternative:
An Obamacare "bronze" policy for $569 per month.
So, I dug back through my records to see what I was paying a few years ago before the first of the Obamacare provisions started taking effect. I was paying $196 for a similar policy, except that my deductables and annual out of pocket was less.
All things considered, Mr. Obama had effectively TRIPPLED my health insurance premium.
So, I called my brother in law to see what HE was doing. He had quit his job last year and, even though he has substantial investments that are not "tax deferred", he had been applying for government benefits that were means tested for "income", like Obamacare is.
What really floored me was that he was getting a superior Obamacare "gold" policy for only 1/8 what I would have to pay for my Obamacare "bronze" policy.
Is that FAIR???? Do we all have to quit our jobs to be treated decently by Barack Obama?
Why do hard-working, middle class americans have to get CLOBBERED by this Affordable (sic) Care Act?
Just SHOW me a politician that supports this horrible law, and I'll show you a politician that will get my vote over my DEAD BODY!
It's just another redistribute the wealth program. Low income people with kids and certain other conditions are being subsidized by the wealthier who don't need extended benefits for adult kids, birth control ect. Everyone gets the same coverage weather they want it or not and the premium is based on ability to pay.
This is a business message board not a propaganda forum, particularly for silly fools simple minded enough to view one side as boogeymen while cheering on a socialist agenda with anti capitalist aims and a goal of top down boot-heel authoritarian control.
Wait till you get YOUR numbers from Obumacare. Don't be so jaded. The website fiasco is just the beginning. This will be a disaster of epic proportions. Doctors dropping out and not accepting insurance, hospitals the same, middle class paying for the poor's healthcare as their own premiums soar, deductables doubling and tripling. What else you want? Oh, another 100 million poor souls from large and small businesses will be thrown into this within a year.
Amen, ctp! And, anyway... the true cost of an average individual's health care in our cockamamie private-public, mis-incentivized system is more like $600 per month, and that's being charitable to the numbers. So what's he/she whining about, even if being accurate and truthful. SeaDrill's market performance is giving us plenty to whine about ATTM without that crapola! (;-)
Sentiment: Strong Buy
Solution is simple. Provide interstate insurance competitions to reduce cost. TORT reforms to reduce healthcare cost. This can reduce healthcare cost by 10-15%. With the reduction of healthcare cost, we can impose a 5-10% surcharge to our insurance bill (like the phone bill to give free home to the Obama's needy) to set up clinics and help to the real needy. We can solve the problems without changing and increasing cost to the 25% uninsured. Note that current set up Congress and unions do not support the bottom 25%. The middle class does. Obama does not want to reform the health care painlessly. He wants to redistribute income and tank the US economy.
