Are my ears working? Someone said/suggested that Amd might start selling AMD-BRANDED solid state hard drives???
Are these desperate AMD people TOTALLY whacked out or what? Think this thing through.
Amd believes that SSHDs have a big future. Perhaps they do. Maybe they DON'T!!! Seagate, Western Digital and an array of mechanical HD mfgrs have a whole hell of a lot to say about THAT! Does Amd actually believe that the HD mfgrs will be sitting about while Amd gets a corner on SSHDs? Really!! Gimme a break.
I suppose Amd can get a few SSHR mfgrs to put Amd's name on some drives. They sure as hell will NOT dedicate all mfg to AMD. That's for certain! That leaves AMD in a flock of larger competitors playing back fiddle again. And if SSHds do actually take root, the big mechanical HD mfgrs will take the front row. And that presumes SSHDs even have a future. Mechanical drives are making unbelievable strides every year. You can buy mechanical drives with faster speeds, way higher storage, way smaller size, and lower power almost every MONTH.
Conventional SSHDs have all sorts of competition in their respective pipe lines. SS optical storage is in the game too. Amd enters at the bottom, will stay at the bottom, and if it's humanly possible, Amd will drag the entire industry down with it. Amd's only talent is "sell at the lowest price".
I hope this is only rumor. Wouldn't want Amd to screw up still another industry. Everything they touch, they ruin.
