Let's START with Silicon on Insulator wafers. Amd made all kinds of hyper claims such as leakage near zero, cooler, and much higher clocks before they adopted SOI. iNTEL soundly rejected it and blew Amd away with non-SOI, and later with hafnium gates, and later again, with trigates. Amd was wrong. SOI wafers are much more expensive. Wafer spoilage is way higher. Leakage reduction is minimal. Moreover, I personally see no reason whatsoever for even buying pure silicon wafers if all they do is bury it under a thin film of silicon dioxide and then lay down a thin layer of silicon on top of that. Why not use a copper wafer, coated with SiO2 and then lay down a silicon film on top of a far better copper heat conductor. Amd is wrong about almost everything they touch.
Amd was dead wrong to buy ATI - especially for $5.4B! Since then, ATI hasn't made a buck and Amd has written off literally billions as a ATI loss.
Amd was dead wrong about selling their fabs to the arabs and then agreeing to pay the arabs such outrageous fab fees. Every arab dealing was dead wrong, and the arabs have failed to service Amd as well.
Amd's super hype about their then flagship Barcelona was about as wrong as any company can be.
Amd was/is dead dead wrong about firing millions of employees to save money and turn Amd around. In fact, Amd dove deeper into debt and has started firing even more in a second round of firing. However, this time, Amd has to cut much deeper - in the process, slashing their roadmaps and becoming far less competitive across all chip lines. They are rapidly losing mkt share from here, with nothing competitive past 2014. Their cash balance has become extremely dangerous challenging bankruptcy and hiring JP Morgan to help find any way out. JP can't help them. Amd needs PRODUCTS. JP can't do a thing to create great PRODUCTS.
And your big failures to add to the above already devastating list are ??
