AMD 2013 is already looking better. One extra billion from consoles
By the fourth quarter of 2013, AMD hopes 20 percent of its revenue will come from embedded products. Of course, AMD cannot comment unannounced products and design wins, but it is evident that it is thinking about consoles from Sony and Microsoft.
AMD CEO Rory Read said the company has “strong” design wins for embedded and semi-custom APUs. For a bit of perspective, AMD’s embedded business accounted for about 5 percent of revenue last year, or $271 million. This year the figure could be closer to $1 billion.
