What does a console retail for?
How much per chip do you think chip suppliers can charge a console maker?
You are aware that consoles are sold at a loss, and that console makers make it back on the back end by selling content, right? Given that they take a bath on the boxes, do you think they are able to pay a premium on the chips and other components? Of course not. They buy parts at cost to minimize their losses on the hardware.
Honestly, how much is $35 a box going to help AMD anyway? That's not enough to slow the revenue bleeding (13% drop in Q2, 10% drop in Q3, 8% drop in Q4). AMD has to find a way to compete with Intel and nVidia, not run away into a low revenue low margin adjacent market.
