AMD fanboys want this buried, while they will have their little console toys, real gamers will choose a real gaming platform endorsed by the industries leading gaming company: Valve.
The 300 prototype units will ship with the following components:
GPU: some units with NVidia Titan, some GTX780, some GTX760, and some GTX660
CPU: some boxes with Intel i7-4770, some i5-4570, and some i3
RAM: 16GB DDR3-1600 (CPU), 3GB GDDR5 (GPU)
Storage: 1TB/8GB Hybrid SSHD
Power Supply: Internal 450w 80Plus Gold

No AMD in that list, no sir.... AMD HW is craptastic at gaming and no true gamer would touch AMD HW with a 10 foot pole!!!!!!
Sentiment: Strong Sell
valve box isn't due till the end of next year plus it will be 1000.00 dollars not getting it is too expensive and not worth the buy if those are just for baseline components .. and i have to upgrade it no F ing way id rather stick to the consoles where the money i spend goes toward games and live
Oh no! 300 prototypes in a $1500 price range really scares me! Yeah right. Sorry man your a year or two out with these things. Market usage will already be set and they will follow game developers if they are smart and want to even have a chance.
Look, I would be afraid of AMD too if I were Origin too. Imagine when HSA is driven through the consoles, gaming is going to be exceptional...and it is going to be multimedia. They probably are doing their research and are trying to get some quick exposure to their business to assist in theirjob search...they can probably join pessimist as greeters at Wal Mart! With their over 30 years of gaming experience as a company! They actually posted that on their website...with their vast experience. LOL! And yes, I will keep using that.
Sentiment: Strong Buy
#$%$ nobody will pay 1000 dollars for a console, do you remember PS3 that costs nearly 700 dollars? people don't buy it until the price drop. I can build a powerful PC for 1000 dollars.
Actually, someone from AMD already stated the company is involved with the Steam Box and also said it's not vocal about it. It's obvious that the most likely APU for the Steam Box is Kaveri, so it's quite logical there are no AMD prototypes yet - at least not in the open as the APU is still in the dark. But again, someone from AMD stated they are involved.
Furthermore, big Linux players are members of or somehow involved with the HSA foundation. Ubuntu, Canonical, Texas Instruments are members while Oracle supports HSA. It's logical that Valve will also support HSA and AMD hardware.
These are EARLY prototypes. There will likely be many manufacturers using many different parts some AMD some not. As these specs currently show, you're looking at a $1000+ console system that will probably not be very popular compared to the MUCH cheaper consoles.
yup if you look at the demographics childeren of age 5 - 18 years of age receive these gaming devices their parents will not spend $1000.00 for a steam box when they can buy a console for $500.00 or less steam OS will become the next dreamcast and fade after 2 years with nvidia
Sentiment: Strong Buy
