Cable & Wireless has give IBM a 3 billion dollar order for global networking. The largest ever network support contract for IBM outside the US. I would think if anyone buys that division, it would be C&W of the UK.
I read today that IBM is putting their Global Networks unit up for sale to focus more on their computer and software businesses. BTY is mentioned as one of the most likely possible buyers. Anybody have more information about this? Global Networks provides managed network services to large companies and competes with BTY and Concert. This would be a nice plum for BTY, especially since it would greatly expand their network in the US.
BT has just made itself THE partner of choice in the global telco game. There will be more news of alliances around the world and more high growth, high return on capital ventures to come. Only a dummy would sell now.
WorldCom paid a high price for MCI. BT got the premier trans-Atlantic partner at zero charge. Who looks foolish out of that?
