    • Naturally Julian Day would say that, "he doesn't have a clue". He came on-board, making millions, without having fought the war. Margin should be competitive in a discount environment. Doesn't take a genius to figure that out. The Kmart Corp. I worked for is long gone. The current Kmart Holding Company will be gone in the very near future if they think they can run 3-4 or even 5% above comp. in margin and expect to succeed in the long run. As I said, Eddie has a plan to make his bucks and run. Oh! and Julian Day will fill his coffers also, just like all of the other whores, Chuckie, Markie, et al.

    • Wow, this Pooper Scooper guy should have Jack Ferry's job! He's got the mantra of Dr. Evil down to an artform! At least I'm fairly certain that Pooper Scooper knows there is a system called EIS that can get sales by store for the previous day - - Hell, Ferry didn't.

    • Remember what Julian Day said....
      Also remember that the recovery is in steps, not all at once. KM was giving away sales at no margin to the point that it became part of our "culture" every year. This year we are getting weaned off that crutch. We had no idea before what our margins should have been. 2004 will see more balance and a return to overall profitability.

    • No doubt Kmart needs profit. However, getting it by increasing margin is a short term solution at best. The name Kmart, in the eye of the general public, does not lend itself to high pricing. They may be able to get away with it during the 'confusion' of emerging from BK, but in the long run (and not to long) they are dead. Kmart can not survive without sales. Where are they going to go next year?? Increase margin again???

    • right now we need the profit more. If it was just sales we needed we could just do what we did in the past and run ads up the wazoo....nope, it's more about profitable sell-thrus and generating more bottom line dollars. Once we've learned to do that we can go back and thoughtfully and intelligently implement a promotional program that gets more sales AND makes sense from a margin standpoint.
