Its not true. I showed them my credentials it made no difference. One of our cashiers just graduated from a 4 yr University, showed them her credentials, and did not receive a raise. Why put on their website they are looking for college students and grads when they are not.
Lets see now,,,we have a college grad applying for a low paying cashier job,Hummmm why isn't she working in her field?
Well,if you apply for a cashier, then you get paid what pay scale they pay them under.
Why didn't she go on line and apply for management?
If there's no positions open, then what is Lowe's suppose to do?Make one for her?
I don't think so Tim.
None of these large corporations respect a degree that is obtained while on the job. You have to resign and start fresh at a new entity to get the respect/salary you deserve. Strange - but that's just the way it is.
and on what basis does one get a raise for having a college degree? does the current position require a college degree - probably not so a raise is not appropriate. and in case no one told you in college, the degree without experience is limiting. second, if you are already working they should give you a raise just because....? Not really how business works. third, the individual should apply for more demanding positions, one that has a college degree requirement perhaps since she/he already has experience in the store. fourth, this inidvidual should go to the internship program if he/she would like a leg up on a future with Lowes.
