Shares of Akamai Technologies (AKAM) plunged 16% in after-hours trading Wednesday after the company reported Q4 revenue below estimates, as growth from e-commerce services slowed.
The company's Q1 sales forecast also missed consensus estimates.
Akamai said it expects Q1 revenue of $352 million to $362 million, vs. $319.4 million in the year-ago quarter. Analysts polled by Thomson Reuters had estimated $370.7 million. And Akamai said Q4 sales rose 17% to $378 million, where analysts had expected $381.3 million.
The Cambridge, Mass.-based company's Q4 profit and Q1 profit guidance, however, beat views. It reported Q4 earnings per share minus items of 54 cents, up 20%, vs. views of 50 cents. It expects Q1 EPS ex items of 50-52 cents, up 24% at the midpoint, where analysts were expecting 47 cents.
"A disappointing top line," said Cowen & Co. analyst Colby Synesael. "It's really just that."
