Rumor: 'iPhone 5S' components to ship in May with assembly of the smartphone to follow soon after.

Adding to the pile of rumors regarding the so-called "iPhone 5S," a report on Wednesday claims Apple's partner suppliers will begin shipping parts for the iPhone 5S follow-up by the end of May, with assembly of the smartphone to follow soon after.

iOS 7 Release Date Set for June: Software to Launch With iPhone 5S

KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo released a new research report that claims that Apple will unveil the new lost cost iPhone and software sometime in June and they will be available for purchase in July.
Kuo states that both dates are earlier than last year's roadmap and he says that the reason for this is that Apple does not want the competition to gain market share by launching devices earlier. These new iPhones are allegedly developed based on the iPhone 5, which makes them easier to create.

He also outlined what he thinks the main differences will be between the iPhone 5 and 5S. The new version will run on the faster application processor, will feature a camera equipped with Smart Flash, will come with a fingerprint chip under the Home button, will have a plastic and fiberglass frame making it lighter and slimmer, and will come in more than two colors.
Kuo is pretty accurate when it comes to making Apple predictions, so this information could be close to correct.

    • Supply chain to deliver next-generation iPhone components in May
Aaron Lee and Ninelu Tu, Taipei; Joseph Tsai, DIGITIMES [Wednesday 20 March 2013]
Components for the next-generation iPhone will start shipping at the end of May with the new smartphone to have a chance of showing up in the third quarter, according to sources from the upstream supply chain.

The new iPhone will not receive a major upgrade and may just be a slightly enhanced version of iPhone 5 (iPhone 5S), the sources said citing their latest specification data. Meanwhile, there are also rumors stating that Apple also plans to release an iPhone model using plastic chassis to push its global smartphone market share, the sources added.

With the orders, related component makers are expected to enjoy around 30% sequential growths in the second quarter. Foxconn Electronics (Hon Hai Precision Industry) chairman Terry Guo previously noted that the company's performance will start picking up after April or May. However, Foxconn declined to comment about its clients when asked about iPhone orders.

The sources pointed out that if the components are all shipped smoothly, manufacturers should be able to deliver the new iPhones to retail channels in 1-2 weeks for them to be ready to sell in the third quarter.

The iPhone 5S is expected to feature a higher-end processor as well as higher-megapixel camera modules, the sources said.

Apple is expected to ship 25-30 million iPhone 5s in the first quarter, down from 45 million units in the fourth quarter of 2012.

      Sentiment: Strong Buy
