Pfd's are cumulative. There is no advantage to deferring them unless that money can turn the company around somehow. But in general, the amount owed to pfd's is so low that there is no way that canceling the pfd dividend will make much or any impact on their business.
If google numbers are correct then the payment to pfd's barely runs about $18m per year or about $4.5m per quarter. Thats less than 4% of their respective cash flow... If they cant cover that then their situation is much worse than we think.
