They waited a long time into November to announce the dividend. My best guess is that the goonies did not want to experience the cost consequences of paying two dividends in Q4. If that's the case, and if 12 cents would affect Q4 performance that much, then the 4th quarter results might not be all that spectacular. In any event, January 1st is rather insulting to CBS shareholders, the 8th would have been a better choice. But, what do I know???.
I reckon that this is CBS' version of the special dividend, paying taxes on dividends at the higher 2013 tax rates. I guess there's some sort of pride in being among the 1st companies to pay at a higher rate, yes, MAKES ME PROUD! Nice going BIMBOs!
