Dowjones News: Amazon has 11 pilot episodes in production - AMZN is going to kill NFLX

Amazon says its original production arm has greenlit five new test pilots for children's shows, bringing the total number of pilots in production at its Amazon Studios unit to 11. AMZN says all will be posted online, and viewer feedback will help determine which one will be produced further.

    Sentiment: Strong Sell

    • Wu96001, this is another news that shows Amazon is smarter in using its money in killing Netflix. Amazon will be producing shows that kids actually watch while limiting the costs for Amazon. On the other hand, Netflix spent money that it did not have. Netflix debts will go way up. Netflix will bankrupted by Amazon strategy eventually.

    • Amazon says its original production arm has greenlit five new test pilots for children's shows, bringing the total number of pilots in production at its Amazon Studios unit to 11. AMZN with real growth and profits will be the one that survives the fight. NFLX will be bankrupt by AMZN.

      Sentiment: Strong Sell

    • Do not wait till AMZN kills NFLX. Sell while the stock is still close to the top of the bubble. It has been losing air, but still lofty price to sell.

With the exclusive of Dowtown Abbey by AMZN I think this is yet another blow to NFLX. Most older people I know love this show and would be one of the drivers to having a membership with NetFlix. This new deal will drive the PRIME membership with AMZN since DowTown is included. Time will tell I suppose but I don't see how this stock keeps going up up and up. That said crazier things have and continue to happen.

    • I wish Amazon luck with their new pilots, but these shows can't compare with what Netflix is doing by bringing in top Hollywood talent.

Have you ever heard of "Battleground"? It's original content on Hulu and it's not bad. But ...

"However, as Cory Barker, Wes Ambrecht, and Andrew Rabin pointed out in a recent roundtable discussion, no one is talking about any of this. While it’s unclear how many people are watching Battleground (although Hulu’s website shows it ranked in as 78th most popular series on Hulu over the past month), the absence of any conversation within critical circles has proven particularly damning. Hulu might have held a panel at TCA, but the panel was reportedly poorly attended; while multiple outlets reviewed Battleground when it first premiered (including The New York Times and The A.V. Club), none of the critics or sites which focus on weekly episodic criticism chose to continue reviewing it week-to-week (despite at least The A.V. Club having precedent with their coverage of U.K. import Misfits based on its Hulu distribution cycle), and the New York Times review is focused more on the novelty of Hulu and Netflix creating original content than on the content itself. The show was so low on the radar that it doesn’t even have a Metacritic page, unlike Lilyhammer which at least garnered enough reviews to merit a page and a score."

Netflix is grabbing the world's attention by coming out with expensive HBO-quality material.

    • There is no money in this industry. AMZN has been undercutting NFLX on pricing, and now it is going to compete even more fiercely. There is no profit here. AMZN is going to bankrupt NFLX.

      Sentiment: Strong Sell
