OK where the cons run riot in the pens

1 dead, 5 hurt in gang riot at prison

CUSHING - A gang riot in the Cimarron Correctional Facility gymnasium ended with one man dead and five others sent to local hospitals Tuesday afternoon.
The name of the man killed was not released because his family had not been notified, said Louise Chickering, spokeswoman for the Corrections Corporation of America, the company that operates the prison. One inmate is in critical condition at an area hospital, and the other four are expected to recover.

The fight at the private prison broke out about 1:20 p.m. and was under control within 10 minutes, Chickering said.

The facility has 960 beds and housed 967 Oklahoma inmates as of Monday, according to the Oklahoma Corrections Department.

The medium-security prison is in full lock down, Chickering said.

Two gangs were involved in the fight, Chickering said, but she did not say which gangs.

The Cushing Police Department and other local law enforcement are helping with the investigation, Chickering said.

Nashville-based Corrections Corporation of America has four prisons in Oklahoma, including the Cushing prison and the Davis Correctional Facility. Both hold only inmates convicted in Oklahoma.
