    Happy Birthday, Doc.

It's hard to believe this past year has passed so swiftly. Seems like only yesterday my stock was flirting with $25.

      RALEIGH (AP) - Authorities
today sought a convicted murderer who
      escaped
during a visit to a New Bern doctor outside the
      privately-run
prison where he was being held.

      Glenn E.
Jacobs, 37, who is currently serving time for armed
      robbery
and being a habitual felon, escaped from the
      doctor's office about 3:15
      p.m. Tuesday, state
Department of Correction officials said. He was
      under
the supervision of armed guards from Pamlico
      Correctional
Facility when he escaped. The Bayboro prison is a
      medium-custody
unit run by Corrections Corp. of America.

The escapee still was at large this morning, said
      Tracy Little, a
      Correction Department
      spokeswoman.

Jacobs was convicted of second-degree murder in
      1988 in Cumberland
      County and sentenced to 20
years in prison. He escaped on Feb. 27,
      1992 and
was recaptured April 3, 1992. He was paroled in
      February
      1996.

Jacobs was first sent to prison in
      December 1983 after being convicted
      in Cumberland
County of larceny and receiving stolen goods. He was

sentenced to three years in prison and paroled in January
      1985.

Jacobs' latest escape came while he was serving a
      sentence of 119
      months to 152 months for a 1996
      conviction in Wake County.

      In September 1986,
Jacobs, formerly of Hope Mills, shot and killed
      Louie
Kenneth Locklear Jr. inside a mobile home, Cumberland
      County
      sheriff's deputies said.
