My year end buys are doing great. The oils, title insurance, railroad stocks are leading the way. If I can't find any merger arbitrage plays by the time I want to lighten up, I may have to turn to Bernie Madoff for advice on how to invest for the rest of 2009. Do you think he will be allowed to manage money from prison? Old Bernie was a real success. Who else could run a $50,000,000,000 scam over 30 to 40 years. The guy absolutely knows how to be a crook. Maybe, with his newly proven record of success, he will be elected to congress where he could associate with people of the same caliber.
FYI Satyam has admitted to years of massive cooking the books. It overstated its cash position by about $1,000,000,000. Its chairman has been arrested and its board disbanded. It is being called the Indian Enron.
Between the two, I would prefer ANAT. I would buy more if I had any money left. Maybe TARP will lend me money at .25%. Will you let them know that I would be interested in about $10,000,000,000?
pmlljl, You would do no worse than Bernie's investors if you dumped the trunkload of $100's off the downtown Hwy. 95 bridge in Las Vegas to the bear and me. We are busy overpaying for way too many shares of ETM and RGCI now--"nothing in moderation, everything to excess" are the words by which we live when investing.
I took a quick look at the balance sheets for ETM and RGCI. It was a quick look because I felt that if I looked any longer I might get sick. Those financial statements do not compare favorably with the ones from ITIC and ANAT. The communications industry is notorious for its "intangible assets", so these two fit right in. Best of luck to you and the bear in this venture, but I pass.
I am trying to decide if I should move to Las Vegas. My lease expires at the end of April. Would you and the bear be able to provide me with a place to stay under one of those bridges?
