    • Here is a the first part of a press release explaining why I missed the COBR conf. call. (There was media event scheduled for 10am, dealing with this event, that I had to attend.)

      FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

LAPORTE CITY COUNCIL AT LARGE CANDIDATE TIM STABOSZ WITHDRAWS FROM REPUBLICAN DEBATE, CITING "RULES VIOLATIONS"; DECLARES EVENT "TAINTED"

April 29, 2011. LaPorte, Indiana-----Timothy Stabosz, candidate for LaPorte City Council at large in the May 3rd Republican primary, announces he withdrew from the Republican Candidates Forum last night, because the moderator allowed one candidate to have a special advantage over all the other candidates in the event, shattering Stabosz's trust in the legitimacy of the forum. Stabosz joined Mayoral Candidate Spencer England in withdrawing from the event. The withdrawal occurred right at the beginning of the event, when the moderator refused to disallow Mayoral Candidate Blair Milo from utilizing a PowerPoint presentation for her initial 10 minute introduction...a method clearly not permitted by the debate rules.

"The rules of the candidates' forum were perfectly clear, and hardly complicated," Stabosz began. "They were listed on one sheet of paper in just a few short paragraphs. Each candidate in a contested race was to be allowed 10 minutes for an 'introduction.' Most intelligent people would presume that the required format would be sitting at a table, or standing at a podium, and SPEAKING to the public. Why the debate officials, or my party, allowed one candidate to use a delivery method that allowed her to 'lord over' all the other participants in the event (when none of the other candidates would have any reasonable basis to know that they, too, could use such a method) was inappropriate, and offensive.
