This is from a different patient posting on the same forum:
"I started the blind part of the Arikace study last May. It appears that I got actual drug, though don't know for sure yet. I had similar reaction as Odell but perhaps not as severe. Lots of difficulty with losing my voice, my airways were quite reactive during this time. Always had a raspy voice, really had to work at it, drinking herbal teas, sometimes skipping a dose to give my vocal cords a rest. My FEV dropped 10 points, which alarmed me, but I was determined to stick with it. It paid off. My FEV went back up and I have had negative sputum cultures ever since. My physician told me in February that if I have one more negative in June he is comfortable with me going off meds. I have been on 3-4 meds since 2007. I am a believer that inhaled therapy is the way to treat MAC. There is another one in clinical trials right now that is being tested to treat Pseudomonas but I believe it could be one to treat MAC as well."
