I think you misunderstood him.
He is not quoting his trailing twelve month performance but his forward 12 month performance.
He's giving you his gain as of end 2013/early 2014.
Nothing could go wrong, of course.
I was referring to the 10% I had already made in capital appreciation, then projecting out the 8.5% divi for the whole year. And yes I know it is not exactly proper method. Now with the price appreciation I see that divi yield has gone down some so that throws a little monkey wrench in my figures. Oh oh! LOL!
But at the end of the year I will happily proclaim I hit my 18.5% (total return) and likely better than that!
