We saw this - a run up around earnings last qtr. Then a few weeks later the naysayers were all over the banks and financial stocks most of May and June.
Is there any reason not to expect to happen again? I expect to lighten up over the next two weeks, maybe even sell all my BBT holdings if it gets over $33.
For the next couple of weeks I may also do some trading - buy on pullbacks of $1.50-2.00 and sell when it goes back up.
Part of the strength yesterday and today has to do with the overall market being up substantially.
JPM dragging banks down. Along with C and BAC the three banks in the DOW averages accounts for a good part of the DOW's decline today.
Today may mark the change in direction for the banks (near term). The JPM news was not good today. JPM is down around 11% so far today. IMO JPM was/is the best managed of the large banks.
BBT may not see $33 (it got close).
Also, the news out of WB was not hepful. WB getting hit hard today.
Amen boatman!
Amber alert - Chandler, last seen looking for shorts, numbie alert, last seen looking for fweeqie and chandler
I have my shorts.
Want to see them, stil?
And remember that all these analysts that blather know hte price of everything and the value of nothing.
Rationalize all you want. I am in BBT to make $s not fight with the analysts.
You might want to take a look at what Dimone of JPM had to say about the next year or so. Dimone is one of the smartest guys heading a bank and has steered JPM out of trouble comparatively speaking (compared to C and WB say).
Earnings for banks have started to grow over the past 3 months. Also, over 50% of ARMS have reset. The worst is behind banks at this point.
That's an open quetion isn't it? I agree that earnings for banks are better than the naysayers predicted, but there is still plenty to worry about (CCs and HELOCS to mention a couple).
Count on it - the naysayers will be pounding this continuously starting by mid-August after earnings season is over. If I am wrong what is the worst that happens to me? I made some damn nice profits on BBT.
