My family has been in this stock for 50 years-it is unfairly being lumped together w/other looser banks. The other 2 big NC banks are history-toxic histiry! BBT is Not likely to cut div, at least by much, because of high % of older, retirees in NC who own this stock and live on it. We need someone out in front on this-if you care, please e-mail the company and tell them to take up for our bank!!!

    • Kelly, WFC came out this morning and told the world how good their business was during Jan/Feb 09. While they cut their dividend their TCE is about half of BBT. Why don't you come out and give the market some visibility on the lst quarter and ressure us you are not going to cut the divident anytime soon.

    • It's nice to think that business cares about old people, but the truth of the matter is: Businesses only care about PROFIT.
Think about it. No profit, no business.
I have been a stock holder for over 40 years and I do believe BBT is going to survive. I DO believe their profits are high enough to sustain the dividend. What shocks me is the pps has dropped 70% in the past year and 50% since BO was elected. Things do look bad.

      • Hey, if you voted for Obama, you should be pleased with what is going on. He is doing EXACTLY what he promised. Welcome to socialism. Big government will take care of you. Don't worry. Be happy. I was not surprised to learn that the BIG O owns no stock at all. Why should he care about yours. Take away the peoples wealth and they have no choice but to go hat in hand to the government.

      • welcome to a papa bear mkt. It's always a tough game for stockholders. Probably the largest part of the damage has already been done in terms of price but not in terms of time. Eventually we may get to the phase where the stock goes down 1/4 point per week for a year or two. That's the worst part of these deals. IMO You can bet that the banking business going forward will be a lot different (most likely smaller) than it used to be and that I believe is the main message of the market.

    • Kelly doesn't control the stock market. At one time C and WFC and any number of others were considered fine companies too. Times change, just ask GM and F. The stock mkt is a big boys game.
