    • I bet it comes back but slowing !!

    • Yes...posted on Monday.

    • anybody seen their dividend in their account at this time ?

    • "Why don't you bury it in the backyard"

Most people would be far and away better with the S&P down 35% and BBT down 40% and real estate down 20% to 60% from their highs, but 2% per year is meaningful to me in a depressionary climate.

"you consider 2.5% as "adequate" but I don't see much difference."

That's why I am in great shape during this time while most others are sinking fast.

"My success to date is being able to take advantage of unjustified fear driven largely by the analyst community which obviously you have taken to heart."

If by "to date" you mean the beginning of the year, we're all up much more than 2.5%, but if by "to date" you mean the last 2 to 3 years when the crash started then good for you and I'll conscede you've done better than me during that time.

    • "I have a ton of money in CD's and get .5% to .8%."

Why don't you bury it in the backyard. It would save you gas going to and from the bank and likely improve your return.

"Second because I want to stay on the opposite side of most of the rest of the board. As they become more negative, I want to start becoming more positive and visa versa. You may be my first clue in that area. Good luck."

Wow! I may be your leading indicator driving your ambitious annual investment goal of 2.5%. Pardon me, you consider 2.5% as "adequate" but I don't see much difference.

Since the start of 2008, my weekly returns have averaged in excess of 2.5%.

I don't consider myself smart or brilliant. My success to date is being able to take advantage of unjustified fear driven largely by the analyst community which obviously you have taken to heart.

    • I have a ton of money in CD's and get .5% to .8%.

I "hang out on this thread" for two reasons. I like to keep an eye on what Bucket and the rest of the board have to say. Bucket because he has a good feel for the longer term and if he changes his position I may want to reconsider my ideas on the future. Second because I want to stay on the opposite side of most of the rest of the board. As they become more negative, I want to start becoming more positive and visa versa. You may be my first clue in that area. Good luck.

    • "I've gotten myself back to being up about 5% since the bear market started and feel making a 2.5% yearly return in this environment is adequate."

If you consider a 2.5% annual return adequate in this environment, my advice is to liquidate your positions and put your money in cds.

Also, out of curiosity, why do you hang out on this thread if you don't have a position in bbt?

    • Is it an infrastructure/ alt energy play

      -------------------------------------------------

I like their infrastructure sector which include many types of alternative energy, but basically, for the present I want some stocks to keep a foot in the equities door and GE seems to have some more potential upside.

I've reduced my holdings by 50% over the past few months and would have no problem selling the rest at any time. I love cash here. I've gotten myself back to being up about 5% since the bear market started and feel making a 2.5% yearly return in this environment is adequate. Good luck.

    • Just curious. What's your thesis on owning GE? If you want an industrial there are better options. If you want a financial there are better options. If you want media there are better options. If you want conglomerate there are better options. And if you want divi there are better options. Is it an infrastructure/ alt energy play or a trust the jockey play or rebound in aircraft engines play?

    • meanwhile, you're missing out on the S&P 500 turn point -- but if i were you and couldn't trade as well as me, i guess i would be on a message board posting up as much jealousy as you can possibly display -- and you did a fine job at that

look for my One-Leg Down One-Leg Up message thread and see if what i said happens, and if it does, then you missed another of more than dozens of moves i have predicted with full success
