Few companies are willing to reveal negative details about employees, ex or current or future. The courts are unpredictable and can go any direction regardless of the culpability of the employee - ex or otherwise.
Banks are more conservative with respect to legal exposure.
It is rare that a former employer will give any more information regarding an employee (ex or any other status) than confirm employment general salary level.
I know for a fact this is BB&T policy, rigidly followed.
